The JENT System

JENT HOMEPAGE

The JENT System is based on Evidence – Not Opinion or Belief

Close to, and even on the day of a competition JENT can assist at a superficial level to ensure horses are comfortable – pain free, drug free enabling them to produce their best effort.

However it is much more effective for horses to have 2 initial sessions within 1 week when they can have a week with less work load and another 1 or 2 sessions a month later before major competitions. This is to primarily allow time to develop new strength through the hindquarters, back, shoulders and neck. After the initial sessions clients these periodic JENT sessions keep the horse sound.

Common Happy Rider Comments

“Increased range of motion”,

“more power in the motor”,

“lightness of the forehand”,

“overall enhanced form”,

“more willing”,

“more enthusiasm and agility,”

so much easier to train”

First Session

  • Discussion with rider/trainer on individual breed characteristics, health and performance history
  • Gait analysis (led only)
  • Structural conformation & Biomechanics assessment to determine physical capacities, strengths and limitations
  • Musculature conformation assessment to determine any muscle asymmetry and preferred postures
  • Joint Range of Movement and flexibility stretching tests
  • Referred pain indicator/reflex tests
  • Palpation of sites of common neuromyofascial distortions for pain/resentment responses/fibrous tissue build up
  • An intervention program based on the JENT clinical reasoning process is then formulated. Choices are discussed and the treatment begins
  • Photonic Red Light is firstly used to stimulate the neurological system repair mechanisms, relax the soft tissues and the horse in general.
  • Quantum WARP 10 Red Light is used in areas of concentrated fibrosis, inflammation and Pain
  • Undirected myofascial release in areas of is used to set change in motion where distortions are evident
  • Directed manual corrections are then made targeting the primary issues holding the body’s tensions in place
  • VONIT to reintegrate any functional subluxations of the spinal segments
  • Laser where appropriate to secure the changes in the Fascial trains
  • An active recovery exercise and rehabilitation program is discussed. Many horse cannot be worked under saddle for the short few days between 1st and 2nd sessions.
  • Written report with recommendations given

Second Session

  • Gait check and comparison analysis (led only)
  • Symmetry check both skeletal and musculature
  • Palpation testing for residual fascial distortions and any chronic underlying issues now presenting as acute
  • Joint Range of Motion (ROM) and flexibility progress stretching tests
  • Photonic Red Light intervention on appropriate acupoints and any inflammation remaining
  • Manual corrections of secondary and compensatory issues
  • Massage to enhance muscular flexibility so the horse can return to full work
  • VONIT 3 passes
  • Hoof balance checked, for issues that may impact on leg structures and the upper body
  • Jaw, teeth and hyoid balance checked for impact on bite, responses to the bit and neck stiffness
  • Basic Saddle check for balance and fit
  • Static stretching
  • Recommendations regarding return to full work & a written report is made

Subsequent sessions

  • Gait check and analysis (ridden or led)
  • Investigative reflex tests to assess and determine any remaining issues
  • Specific and detailed check for saddle pressure areas
  • Red light to boost immune system and work on any particular conditions
  • Manual mobilisation techniques as needed
  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching session
  • VONIT
  • Laser if necessary
  • Discussion and recommendations with Trainer/Owner/Rider regarding:
  • Detection of early signs and symptoms of new future issues
  • Handy acupoints to maintain and use in times of stress
  • Specific exercises to improve the horse’s natural way of going
  • Future maintenance programme

What to Expect?

After the initial session many horses measure higher at the wither.  Literally over night this can occur as the horse stops ‘hunching down’ to minimise discomforts by reducing the ROM of the front end.

Each horse will process the changes differently according to their temperament, age, general health and how long the issues have been present. After the initial JENT session most horses need quiet for 24hrs, and then are bright and enthusiastic. Some just need to rest for a couple of days to process the changes. Time out in the field is ideal as they innately know how to care for themselves and wandering around ad lib for the better part of the day will assist faster positive results.

After the initial session a small percentage of horses may be a little uncoordinated in their paces, mentally scattered or can be irritable.  It’s normal. Issues addressed may have been carried in the body for the whole of the horse’s life and change has to be accepted. They brighten up again within 2-3 days. These behaviours do not occur after the second and subsequent sessions. If interested, owners can be taught some acupressure to administer between sessions to maximise fast positive changes.

Many owners report some 6 months later their horses building up so much through the subscapular muscles and chest, larger rugs are needed across the shoulders and neck line.  Some have reported needing wider gullet plates in the saddles.  Now that’s muscle development!  Strength the horse did not have before JENT

On observing the changes JENT makes, owners and riders can detect signs and symptoms of any new issues that may arise by recognising ‘alerts’, a decrease in performance or a return to any previous negative behaviours. Generally a single JENT session is then sufficient to sort out the offending issue. Maintenance programs are encouraged. Carers can also take courses to learn how to maintain their horses between professional visits.
