JENT Process

Initially, each requires 3 sessions, generally 1 week apart. If the horse has had JENT previously, at any time in its life, then 3 sessions may not be necessary. If the horse has had JENT within a year 1 visit will usually rectify the current fascial distortions.

FIRST SESSION

  • Gait analysis (led only)
  • Discussion with rider/trainer on individual breed characteristics, health and performance history
  • Structural conformation assessment to determine physical capacities, strengths and limitations
  • Musculature conformation assessment to determine any muscle asymmetry and preferred posture
  • Joint Range of Movement and flexibility stretching tests
  • Referred pain indicator/reflex tests
  • Palpation of sites of common facial distortions for pain/resentment responses/fibrous tissue build up
  • An intervention program based on the JENT clinical reasoning process is then formulated. Choices are discussed and the treatment begins
  • Photonic Red Light is firstly used to stimulate the neurological system repair mechanisms and relax the soft tissues.
  • Appropriate undirected myofascial release is used to set change in motion where distortions are evident
  • Directed manual corrections are then made targeting the primary fascial distortions
  • An active recovery exercise and rehabilitation program is discussed (not under saddle between the 1st & 2nd sessions)
  • Written report with recommendations given

SECOND SESSION

  • Gait check and analysis (led only)
  • Symmetry check both skeletal and musculature
  • Palpation testing for residual fascial distortions and any chronic underlying issues surfacing as acute
  • Joint Range of Movement (ROM) and flexibility progress stretching tests
  • Photonic Red Light intervention and manual correction of secondary and compensatory issues
  • Hoof balance checked, for issues that may impact on leg structures and the upper body
  • Jaw, teeth and hyoid balance checked for impact on bite, responses to the bit and neck stiffness
  • Saddle check for balance and fit
  • Static stretching
  • Recommendations regarding return to ridden work & written report

THIRD SESSION

  • Gait check and analysis (ridden or led)
  • Assessment of and intervention to, any remaining issues or those arising from the previous weeks work
  • Specific and detailed check for saddle pressure areas
  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching session
  • Discussion and recommendations with Trainer/Owner/Rider regarding:
  • Detection of early signs and symptoms of new future issues
  • How to optimise and ‘ride the difference
    Future maintenance programme if necessary
